Resistance To Slavery
In French Guiana slaves resisted slavery in different ways. In some cases slaves would run to other countries surrounding French Guiana. "Slaves would escape to Brazil, a Portuguese colony, and unfortunately be returned to French Guiana by the Portuguese for a payment."(Gomas 255) This form of resistance wasn't effectives because they would always get returned and both sides would make more money. Another way slaves resisted was escaping through war. "When the Portuguese raided plantations or camps with slaves, the slaves would get transported out of French Guiana and into Brazil or other surrounding country."(Gomez) Although this way wasn't a way to escape slavery, it was a way to get out of their original country.
